Catalino Tite Curet Alonso - Collection Vol. 1

Tite Curet Alonso, with well over 2000 compositions to his credit, is arguably one of the most prolific composers that the island of Puerto Rico has produced.  A great many of the classic salsa hits that were released by Fania Records were penned by Don Alonso himself. In this series titled, Collection, I have chosen some of those recordings as they were originally released. It by no means covers all of the musical output of Curet Alonso but what may be lacking in quantity is more than made up by the sheer strength and quality of the musical work. It truly is an outstanding achievement when one takes into account that the bulk of the material presented in this 5-CD "Collection" was generated in little more than 20 years.

You may also want to seek out and purchase a recording titled, - "Aqui Estoy" - that Mr. Alonso recorded on the Clip Records label. I believe it is his only recording, check it out.  Bon Apetit.

Johnny Pacheco y Su Charanga (remastered)

Ok! There are thousands of great Afro-Caribbean recordings out there but this one by Johnny Pacheco is an absolute, "Gotta Have". Every tune is a smoker. Pacheco is at the very peak of his powers and so are the other musicians. When released in 1961, this recording was in every single Puerto Rican and Cuban household in New York City, Puerto Rico and Cuba. It was also the very first release by the now defunct Alegre Recording Co. and it is still played at parties and nightclubs to this day. Check out the last track, "Tema de Pacheco" it is an descarga and is OUTSTANDING. The Late Chombo Silva takes a scorching violin solo that has not aged at all. A Classic!!! Very Highly Recommended!!!
